I refashioned a thrifted turtleneck and too big skirt to this:
I used buttons from the old green coat and made lining from a thrifted shirt. I kinda like the new look. What do you think?

I'm totally enjoying the refashion scene!
I think…yes! I love it!
You look very chic
You are just so talented! You look lovely, by the way!
Thanks Jan!!!
Wow! That looks amazing.
Oh, so cute! …and the outfit is adorable too 🙂
Love the sweater! I don’t enjoy wearing turtleneck sweaters anymore, but I love wraps/cardigans so I think I might try this! Any suggestions how to start??
Hi Christina,
When I started, I used very inexpensive items and just started cutting away. I made lots of mistakes, but learned from each of them. Sometimes I’d have to start over, other times, I could find a solution. I think the main thing is to not be afraid of taking that risk. Just jump right in and have fun!

I love what you did with the turtleneck sweater….!!
Thank you, it was a fun refashion!
Happy Tuesday!

Where did you get your cute boots???
The boots are from JCP a few years ago.
this is wonderful! I’m about to try too… how do you sew the knitted part after cuttin to prevent stitches from unravel?
Hi Elisa,
I added a binding like I did on this sweater:

Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.

No tutorial on the sweater? :-\ LOVE the look, but I’m new to the refashioning world, so could use a little help. Am I just missing it somewhere?
Hi Robin,
This post was early on in my blog and I didn’t always do tutorials back then. Sorry! But I basically just cut the new neckline, cut up the middle, shortened it, hemmed all the edges, wrapped it to the side and added buttons & button holes.
Hope that helps…
Beth

You are very inspiring – I only discovered your site today but it determined my new year resolution – to visit charity shops more often! When you sew sweaters how do you avoid it stretching under the machine? I tried a cushion a while ago but ended up with rippled edges… am I using the wrong needle, tension or thread? I did a straight stitch and then used my overlocker to stop the edges fraying. It had no fastening as I made it envelope style. Since then the whole thing has stretched way bigger than the cushion pad too so I may try reducing the size again as a practice before I attempt to change a sweater to a cardigan.
Hi Tanya, Thank you for your kind words. The looser weave or lower quality sweaters seem to stretch for me, too. I tend to look for a tighter weave to work with. I hope this helps. Happy Sewing in the New Year!
