As the youngest of four children, I’m used to hand-me-downs.
Since I’ve started refashioning, hand-me-downs have now become a treat!
Not only do the thrift stores supply my new habit, but my friends have been joining in and donating to my obsession.
Here’s a t shirt that was in a bag from Jakkie.

My friend gave me, yes…. gave me her old Canon Rebel XT. So I’ve been experimenting with the new camera and Photoshop. I’m having so much fun, just wish I didn’t have to work full time (Maybe I should say “get to work full time”) Then I’d be doing this 24/7.
I’ll keep my eyes open for some more shoes!!!!

Wow! That is awesome.
Did you leave the sleeve openings raw or did you sew up a hem around the arm? I’m not sure whether I should finish the sleeves or leave them raw on the shirt I’m working on. Especially if I need to make some cuts that are angled across the grain in order to make the sleeves fit better.
I just left them raw for now because I’ll most likely wear something over it. But if I end up wearing it this summer by itself I might finish the sleeves.

Ive always wanted to get ideas how to make an blah tshirt fit better.. love this idea.. ive not really sewn much, think a beginner can do it???
i am a resale junkie, so just gotta tell ya love the deal on the shoes! it is addictive to shop those stores… my hubby is amazed at all the great stuff i bring home…not thrilled at the amount tho!!! hard to say no to some things!!
I hear ya about the thrift store addiction! My daughter was teasing me about sitting outside our thrift store on morning waiting for them to open. She said, “Mom, it’s like a crack house” 🙂 Funny but a little true. I get such an adrenaline rush each time I get a good deal on something.

We are lucky with our little thrift store. I went in last Tuesday, looking for a couple of things and she handed me a bag and said it was bag sale day. Fill a bag for $2.00. I managed to find enough to fill the bag.

Well that’s just the most amazing thing I’ve seen in ages! I’ve not heard of refashioning – probably because Oklahoma is about 2 years behind everyone else in the country AND I don’t sew at all – But I LOVE this!! Following you now for sure because canning is great but this looks like magic to me!

I was going to take pictures this weekend but it’s been cloudy the whole time! I’ve got about 10 new recipes (for the specialty nano-canning book) – However, I will be picking your brain on pickling! I can get beets, peppers, and okra down well but cukes crispness seems to elude me!
I tried a great recipe for refrigerator pickles last fall and they are so crisp and good. Taste just like Claussen pickles. No processing involved and they stay good for a year in the fridge. We are still enjoying them.
Love Claussen pickles!! If they stay good for a year in the fridge, then it’s worth it not to process!

Yes! it was a great experience and continues to be! The pictures I mentioned before were for the follow up nano-canning book for specialty jams. It’s taken a long time for me to get the recipes good, safe, and correct for very very small batch canning. If you need help just let me know! I will be happy to do it!
I love it! Reuse,resource and recycle are all great ideas, but managing to do this and have the end product actually better than the parts is brilliant!

Were you using a t shirt knit material? I don’t think this technique would work on a cotton weave.

Just found this, and I so want to try it. You said, “set your machine to highest tension and longest stitch length for automatic ruffler” …. does that mean you have to have a ruffler attachment? I’ve never done that before (have to look and see if I have a foot or attachment for that).

No special foot is necessary. Just use your regular foot. This works really well on t shirt material! Have fun with this and I’d love to see your finished shirt!

Hi There, My name is Trenie, a senior that recently moved to Mexico and ran across your wesite (or blog, sinces I am not familar with all the terms) and enjoyed the newly designed T-shirt. When i moved here I came with only 2 suitcases in hand, knowing that I had always wanted to live here. With that said, I liked the T-shirt very much and even tho I am not a “seamstress” I am fairly certain that I could make one. My sewing machine (one of the first portable Singer machines ever made, early to mid 1930’s) was left in storage in Ca. but would like to get it soon on one of my return trips to the US. It may take a few months but would like to follow you so when I do get the machine I will have a few of your choices to make one of your items. Also, of course love the shoes but at this stage of the game better stick to “flip-flops” due to the cobblestone streets and my “experienced” age lol..
