Buttonholes can be one of the scariest undertakings when learning how to sew. They are usually one of the last steps in a project and if not sewn correctly, can actually ruin a design. But I’m here to tell you, fear not the buttonhole, because with a little practice you can master this skill. Many new sewing machines have a special buttonhole attachment which makes sewing a buttonhole fairly easy when you follow the machine’s directions. But no worries — if your machine only has a straight and zig zag stitch, you can still get the hang of making professional looking buttonholes.

Sewing and refashioning is definitely one of my favorite things to do, but I love to preserve fresh summer produce, too. My editor at eHow has graciously allowed me to expand and produce some canning videos and tutorials for you this summer. I hope you enjoy…
Peaches are in full swing right now and it’s the perfect time to use them in your baking, cooking and canning. They are so sweet, delicious and juicy this time of year. Even though fresh peaches are only available for a few months in the summer, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy them all year long. Just choose some fresh ripe peaches, grab a few jars, a little sugar, and you’ll be on your way to preserving these delightful beauties in no time. This winter you can look forward to savoring them right out of the jar, as an ice cream topping, or even in a dessert.
If you’ve recently taken to the road on a bike, and you love to sew, then this DIY bike pouch could be a perfect way to combine two of your favorite hobbies and create a spot to carry a few essentials while taking to the open road.
Bicycles have been one of the hottest commodities lately and it’s pretty easy to see why these two-wheeled beauties are in such high demand. There aren’t too many places where can you experience fitness, freedom and fun all at once. Breathing in fresh air, feeling the wind in your hair and getting your heart rate up is a win-win-win situation in my book.
Cherry season is here! From cobblers to pies to toppings for ice cream, cherries remind us of those sweet, hot, and lazy summer days that seem to last forever. Not only are cherries sweet and delicious, but they are oh, so good for you. Filled with vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants, they are often referred to as a super food. Delightful and healthy, there’s nothing like a bowl of fresh picked cherries, but you can also bring the taste of summer into your home all year long by preserving these sweet little red gems.

If transforming your home into a more eco-friendly place is important to you, then this zero-waste reusable sponge a good alternative to those traditional throw-away plastic dish sponges.
Made from small scraps of fabric and a mesh fruit bag that would’ve otherwise been thrown away, this project will also use up some remnants from past projects. Choose colors and patterns to brighten up your kitchen and make washing dishes fun again.
When you’re finished scrubbing, just toss it in your washing machine with some towels and dry it on low heat. It’s the sponge that keeps on giving.
