DIY Create Skinny Trousers from Wide Legs Tutorial

Stacy and Clinton told me NOT to do this.

But I did it anyway.

And I like it!

Stacy and Clinton have been telling me all these years with my wide hips that this narrow cut will make me look like………….

of all things………..

AN ICE CREAM CONE.

I beg to differ!

I love how this narrow cut shows off my shoes.

I love how this narrow cut creates a slimming illusion.

I think I might do this to all my pants (Sorry my English and Australian friends, I know that “pants” word makes you giggle).

Here’s a quick version of how I did this:

Start with some thrift store wide leg trousers.

Next put them on inside out and have someone pin the new seam line for you. In my case,  the ruggedly handsome contractor husband pinned them for me.

Now, use the pin lines as a guide to draw a chalk line. Sew the new seam and trim.

Measure the new hem line and sew a small rolled hem.

Put on some cute shoes and you’re good to go.

Now Stacy and Clinton, do I look like an ice cream cone?

Something to crow about!

Hard to imagine a better way to be way to be welcomed into this world than with a bunch of five year olds cheering you on.

Always amazing!

Always a miracle!

Always exciting!

We started in early April with a dozen eggs fresh from the farmyard. Loaded up the handy dandy Turn-X Automatic Incubator. Fired it up, and ……..

waited and……

waited and…….

waited and……

waited until………

Twenty one long days later…..

after much work, out popped a baby chick.

(You can see a short video of one of our chicks actually hatching here.) Be prepared for some cheering!

My expectant students already had names ready and a decorated nursery!

Seriously, I get to spend the day with some of THE sweetest five year olds on the planet!!!!

May wonders never cease in their world.

Let’s Get Pickled!

I’m not much of a gardener, but boy, do I love to can!

It’s asparagus season here in Eastern Oregon and you know what THAT means!

Pickled asparagus!

I thought you just might like to go along for the ride.

Pick up some garlic and jalapenos…..

onions…….

and some asparagus.

As usual, it’s “go big or go home” here in the Huntington house.

I started with 30 pounds which made 25 quarts.

Gather your jars.

Wash the asparagus. I’m lucky to have a nice deep sink which is a perfect soak bath.

Wash your jar rings.

I use my dishwasher to wash the jars. It’s perfect because it sterilizes the jars, too and they stay clean until you are ready to use them.

Next you’ll cut the spears to fit in each jar.

Add a garlic clove, slice of onion and half a jalapeno. I left the seeds in.

Now for the brine.

Since most of you don’t live here in the Huntington house, I thought I’d pare it down a bit and make this recipe for a more realistic 10 pounds of asparagus. Of course if you live by the “go big or go home” motto, feel free to adjust accordingly. 🙂

This is what you will need for 10 pounds of asparagus:

10 cups white vinegar

12.5 cups water

5 Tablespoons pickling spice

10 Tablespoons canning salt

2.5 teaspoons dill weed

2.5 Tablespoons red pepper flakes if you like a bit of a kick

Combine in a large pot and boil for 15 minutes.

Of course this amount may vary due to how tightly you pack the jars.

10 pounds should make approximately 8 or 9 quarts of pickled asparagus.

Fill each jar with brine to 3/4 inch from the top.

Be sure to boil the lids for a few minutes before putting them on jars.

Next put on the hot lids and rings.

Process the jars for 15 minutes.

And before you know it you’ll be the life of the party when you show up with this beauty in your hands.

I’d love to be in your sidebar!

I finally did IT!

I figured IT out!

IT took me forever!

But now that I’ve done IT,

I’d love IT to be in your side bar!

Check out my new button!

I even figured out how to add a Grab Box.

Why? You ask?

Well, a few weeks ago, I joined fifty other bloggers in  “What I Like About Your Blog” hosted by Inspire Me Heather.

We are each given two other blogs to critique and in turn our blog will be anonymously critiqued by two other bloggers. I appreciated the feedback.

One of the suggestions that was given to me was to have a button for others to put in their sidebar. I have actually put buttons in my sidebar for many of the bloggers I enjoy reading. That way my readers can easily enjoy them with just a click of a button.

Ok, no problem, I told myself.

Not quite as easy as I thought.

But after many trial and error sessions, I’ve finally done it!

Feels like quite the accomplishment.

So, if you enjoy what I have to offer, I’d love to be in your sidebar, too!

Enjoy your day!

DIY Pleated Summer T Shirt Refashion

SCORE!

I found the perfect color blue t shirt to refashion at my thrift store the other day.

Only one problem………

The bright yellow logo on the front.

Not to worry though, I’ll just cover it up!

This is what it looked like at first. I used another similar blue, too small, thrift store t shirt for the pleats to cover up the logo.

DIY Ruffled T Shirt Cardigan Tutorial

What should we do to liven up this plain old gray t shirt?

Perhaps some more ruffles would do the trick.

What do you think?

A DIY Spring T Shirt Refashion

As the youngest of four children, I’m used to hand-me-downs.

Since I’ve started refashioning, hand-me-downs have now become a treat!

Not only do the thrift stores supply my new habit, but my friends have been joining in and donating to my obsession.

Here’s a t shirt that was in a bag from Jakkie.

Now let’s get this party started!

I just had to show off my 75 cent thrift store shoes.

Here’s a few other ideas for styling your new shirt:

This was a fun and easy refashion. Think I’m going to make one in every color!

If you try this, I’d love to see pictures!
