Denim, so rugged and strong.
Doilies, so delicate and fragile.
Create a delightful dichotomy when combining these two completely different textiles by adding doily sleeves to an ordinary denim vest.
My latest tutorial over at eHow will walk you through the step by step process of adding these beautiful doilies to a denim vest.
But before you click over to eHow to read the entire process, I want to thank you once again for taking the time to leave comments, tweet and pin to your Pinterest boards. Believe you me, it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the powers that be over at eHow. Because of you, they have now asked me to be the Resident Sewing Expert for Demand Media Studios!
Pinch me!
To thank you and to celebrate, I’m going to give this doily sleeve vest away to one of you on Saturday, August 23rd. Each time you comment, pin, tweet, share my eHow tutorial on Facebook or Google+, your name will be entered into the drawing.
You guys really are the best subscribers on the planet!
Thank you!
Thank you!

For more refashion inspiration:
Add a row of lace to the bottom for a cute top.
That would be cute, too!
I am a senior but still enjoy dressing in style. I live in hot weather and need to stay cool and with the use of lace on the sleeves of clothing works wonders for the angel wings (arms) that have seen many many years on this earth. Tks, Trenie
I love how you refer to your arms as angel wings, Trenie!
Another cute refashion, Beth! Congratulations on your new position with eHow!p. Sue V.
Thank you, Sue! Have a nice weekend!
Lovely idea 🙂 and congrats on the new position.
Thanks so much, Liz!
Gorgeous! I’m off to a vintage fair tomorrow and will be keeping an eye out for doilies! Congratulations too – well deserved!
Thanks so much! Have fun at the vintage fair tomorrow and here’s to finding some great doilies!!!
Congratulations on your new title! That’s exciting! And the vest with doilies gets my creative juices flowing. Might need to get grandmas doilies out soon!
Thanks, Joanie, I’m pretty excited! Have fun with grandma’s doilies, I bet she would love to have them see the light of day again. 🙂
Beth- As usual you have created a darling piece of clothing that was upcycled. Would love to do this one…now I just need to find a denim vest! Thanks for all the ideas and inspiration you give us!!
Deann
Hi Deann, hopefully your thrift store will have as many denim vests as mine does. Seems like I see them every time I go shopping. Have fun with this project and thanks so much for taking the time to give me encouragement!
Very pretty but yet practical.
Thank you, Donnie! I like to have my arms covered a bit when I’m teaching. Have a wonderful Sunday!
Oh congratulations!! That’s great news – enjoy your new roll. Love this look of denim and lace (reminds me of the Marty Roan song from the ’70’s!!)
Thank so much, I’m looking forward to this new responsibility. I’m heading over to Youtube right now to see if I remember that song. 🙂
Congratulations…you will bring sewing inspiration to many. As you have to us.
Thank you so much, Deanna! Hope your Sunday is as beautiful as you are!

You are just full of amazing ideas, aren’t you?! This is so cute, I definitely want to try this out!
Xx
A very clever idea. I have just recently started sewing again and love the idea of refashioning. Something new without ALL the work. Haven’t seen all of your ideas yet, but love the ones I have seen.
Denim and white go together so well, and this takes it up a notch. Don’t know how you keep coming up with the unique ideas, but glad you do.
Great idea! I’ll be trying this. Congrats on your exciting news!!
Love how you work with lace and denim…my favorite combinations…I too am a senior with angel wings!
I hope you realize that one of the rows of crocheting on the doily is broken and that will have to be either fixed or knotted so it doesn’t unravel when washed. Otherwise I love the idea. I have the angel wings also. Thank you!
Yes, I did go back and fix that. Thanks for letting me know, Kathryn. 🙂
