DIY: Boho Chic Cowgirl Shirt and Some Winners

title2

I love the Boho Chic look.

I was thrilled to find a HUGE sheer peasant shirt at the thrift store. I planned to channel my inner hippie and wear it proudly.

Well, perhaps it’s because I live in rural Eastern Oregon, or perhaps it’s because I’m short, or perhaps it was just too big, but it seemed to literally swallow me up. It did nothing to flatter my figure. I disappointedly folded it up along with my flower child dreams and put it away for awhile.

Then along came this large men’s denim cowboy shirt. Talk about opposites attracting.

I just knew these two shirts had to be together somehow.

I wrangled the two shirts together to create something a little more wearable around these parts. šŸ™‚

I also have two winners to announce today.

First, the winner of the Mr. Roger’s Cardigan Award is:

Nora

This is what she had to say about her nominee:

“I nominate my husband who has worked 20 plus years in law enforcement with a specialty in crimes against children. As a child abuse investigator (which covers all sorts of issues) his days are unfortunately quite busy but his expertise and his faith has been instrumental in keeping kids safe and putting perpetrators behind bars. It takes a special man to do this. And I am thankful to be able to care for him. Even though he probably would not wear a cardigan, I tell him heā€™d look good in one all the time. I would be honored to wear one for him in honor of all those who care for our children.”

And I would be honored to have you wear this cardigan! Congratulations Nora!

Please email me at bhunting@eoni.com and let me know where you would like me to send the cardigan.

I’d also like to announce the winner of the Tribal Print Leather Bracelet.

I always go to peasant shirts in the store, try them on and then find they don’t suit me. I love what you’ve done with these two shirts. Now if only I wasn’t so self conscious about my arms.

  3. lori says:

Super cute! Beth, could you please clarify on ‘leaving 4″ under the armholes’. I can not make out what this means!

  15. Anne Fraser says:

Thanks so much – this has given me a fabulous idea for a much loved denim shirt that I ruined while painting. I have a self imposed buying-no-more-clothes ban for 12 months, so this will be great for a Country Rock Festival that I will be attending.

    • Oh, yes! This would be the perfect shirt for a country rock festival. Have fun and good luck on your buying ban. Since I started refashioning, my clothing budget has significantly decreased, and I have so many more clothes to wear. Happy sewing!
      Beth

  16. alyssa says:

In my stash I too have a peasant shirt that does nothing for my figure. Now I just need a denim shirt. I LOVE LOVE this. Thans for the excellent idea!!!

  17. I LOVE that top! I’ll take one in size sm. please šŸ™‚

  18. Nora says:

This looks so sweet and breezy! I hope my husband agrees when I ask to use his denim shirt for this project!

  19. I like the before pic of the white shirt and was wondering how you were going to improve it. THEN when I saw the “after” picture, I remembered… (this is how the disciples must have felt watching Jesus turn water into wine!!!) Well, you’ve made a believer out of me (again) and I’ll never question your judgment again, oh great one! LOL!! (dusting off my machine this spring)

  20. Jo H. says:

This is beautiful … you have such a good eye for putting things together, Beth. I was wondering one thing: is the back more gathered than the front? Your instructions say to gather the basting stitch to make the sheer shirt fit the denim shirt, but the front looks non-gathered. This is such a sweet refashion; I’m filing it away in my head and wanted to make sure I have a good idea how to make it. Great job!

  21. Ro B says:

How would you handle construction if one wants to do this leaving the jean shirt sleeves on?

  22. Oh Beth, what a great mash up of those two shirts! Isn’t it nice to be able to go to your stash and crank out something stylish that no one else has? You have really been giving away some goodies!

  23. A really beautiful and creative refashion Beth!

  24. Teri Brown says:
