I love the Boho Chic look.
I was thrilled to find a HUGE sheer peasant shirt at the thrift store. I planned to channel my inner hippie and wear it proudly.
Well, perhaps it’s because I live in rural Eastern Oregon, or perhaps it’s because I’m short, or perhaps it was just too big, but it seemed to literally swallow me up. It did nothing to flatter my figure. I disappointedly folded it up along with my flower child dreams and put it away for awhile.
Then along came this large men’s denim cowboy shirt. Talk about opposites attracting.
I just knew these two shirts had to be together somehow.
I wrangled the two shirts together to create something a little more wearable around these parts. 🙂

I always go to peasant shirts in the store, try them on and then find they don’t suit me. I love what you’ve done with these two shirts. Now if only I wasn’t so self conscious about my arms.
I’m the same way about peasant shirts. If you want some arm coverage, you could always add the sleeves back. I actually thought about doing that with this shirt. Happy Spring!!!
Super cute! Beth, could you please clarify on ‘leaving 4″ under the armholes’. I can not make out what this means!
Thank you Lori! I left four inches on the top of the sheer shirt open for the armholes when I pinned and sewed the denim yoke onto the gathers of the sheer shirt. Let me know if that helped.

Thanks so much – this has given me a fabulous idea for a much loved denim shirt that I ruined while painting. I have a self imposed buying-no-more-clothes ban for 12 months, so this will be great for a Country Rock Festival that I will be attending.
Oh, yes! This would be the perfect shirt for a country rock festival. Have fun and good luck on your buying ban. Since I started refashioning, my clothing budget has significantly decreased, and I have so many more clothes to wear. Happy sewing!

I like the before pic of the white shirt and was wondering how you were going to improve it. This is beautiful … you have such a good eye for putting things together, Beth. I was wondering one thing: is the back more gathered than the front? Your instructions say to gather the basting stitch to make the sheer shirt fit the denim shirt, but the front looks non-gathered. This is such a sweet refashion; I’m filing it away in my head and wanted to make sure I have a good idea how to make it. Great job!

How would you handle construction if one wants to do this leaving the jean shirt sleeves on?
That would be a cute look also. You might be able to cut the shirt off directly under the sleeves and follow the rest of the instructions.
