DIY Felt Gingerbread Ornaments: New One Minute Video

Dating all the way back to the 15th century, the gingerbread man has become a holiday classic. It’s no wonder that so many people choose to make this cookie during the holidays with the delicious scents that fill the house when baking this treat. In addition, many versions of the fairy tale have been told throughout the years, making it a childhood favorite.

You can bring this story to life and let the kids help with the seasonal decorating by making cute felt gingerbread ornaments that are simple enough to get the whole family involved.

DIY Gnome Bottle Toppers: New One Minute Video

Up your gift-giving game and present the gnome lovers on your list with a bottle of their favorite drink topped with a delightful handmade gnome. These little Nordic folklore creatures were originally thought to protect the homestead unless they weren’t treated well – in which case, look out because they could become very mischievous.

Nowadays, the gnomes’ pointy hats, round noses and long beards are quickly becoming a holiday decorating phenomenon. Made from old sweaters or felt, these little Scandinavian hooligans will make gift wrapping and staying “gnome” for the holidays fun again. (Gnome pun intended. Ha!)

DIY Fabric Hot Dish Basket: New One Minute Video

A sit-down dinner during the holidays (or at any time for that matter) is a real treat, and eating family-style can make a shared meal feel even more warm and cozy. However, passing those hot dishes around the table with regular hot pads can make handing over straight-from-the-oven casseroles pretty awkward. This simple hot-dish basket made from a placemat will make exchanging those hot serving dishes easy and safe. Get ready for everyone at your table to be saying, “Please pass the hot dish.”

DIY Mittens From an Upcycled Flannel Shirt = Shmittens :)

Hey all you Smitten people out there. Remember my Mittens Made From Sweaters posts and videos? Well, here’s another fun idea that I’m now calling:

SHMITTENS!!!

Hahahahaha! Get it? Shirt + Mittens = SHMITTENS!!!

Oh my gosh, sometimes I just crack myself up. 🙂

Take an old flannel shirt that’s been hanging around the thrift store or maybe even a loved one’s old shirt to create some shmittens. Not only will they keep your hands toasty warm, but they’ll look so cute, your friends will be asking which little boutique carries them.

All it takes is one of the shirt sleeves you saved after making this flannel shirt tote bag, two sweater sleeves you saved after making these holiday sweater trees and a little fleece. That’s it! Just a word of warning though — you might like making these so much, no one’s shirts or sweaters will be safe around you again.

DIY Tote Bag From an Upcycled Flannel Shirt

There’s just something so cozy and comfy about a flannel shirt. The weather starts to get cooler and we happily bring out our thermals. We layer them over turtlenecks and under vests, but why not bring that same snug feeling into a winter tote by creating this bag from a thrift store find, or making a super-special cuddly tote from the shirt of a loved one. One of the neat things about using an upcycled shirt for this project is the front pockets become part of the design and are totally usable. Also, with gift giving season fast approaching, this would make a wonderful, inexpensive hand-made gift. Trifecta in my opinion.
