You need to be careful what you wear around me. Be very, very careful. Each sweater I lay my eyes on these days becomes a potential mitten fantasy to me. While you think I’m listening to you talk about your elf on the shelf adventures, I’m most likely envisioning myself cutting up your sweater to make more SMITTENS!!!! You can’t say you haven’t been warned…
If you’re looking for the perfect DIY gift, you can make a pair of cozy, warm, fleece lined mittens from a couple of outdated sweaters in under an hour. I like to call these “Smittens.” Your friends and family will love receiving a unique pair of earth friendly, handmade Smittens this holiday season.
Here’s the Facebook video: (be sure to turn on the sound, it’s more fun with the music.:))

Nice post! The first thing you said in your post made me giggle! True, sweaters are not safe around you! I like to see what you can do with sweaters, especially this project. I saw tons of sweaters at the thrift store last night and thought about that! Thanks Beth!
Thank you Diana. Here’s a link to a class I did on How to Upcycle and Refashion Sweaters for Annie’s Crafts: https://www.anniescatalog.com/onlineclasses/detail.html?code=GAV02
Just in case you’re interested. 😉
Thanks for sharing Beth!
You’re so welcome Diana!
Just in time! My closet is about to lose some ‘stuff’, and I’m glad I stumbled on your post because there are a couple sweaters about to ‘go into the box’. Not now! I’m anxious to try your smittens. Looks like fun! Thank you!
Oh I’m so happy this was a timely post for you, Joanne! If you try the Smittens, just make sure that you print out the pattern at 100%. Place your hand on the pattern and adjust it accordingly. Please let me know if you have any questions, I’ll be glad to help. 🙂
I can’t find a link to the pattern. Am I just not seeing it? Thanks!
Here’s a link to the article that has the pattern. https://www.ehow.com/13559466/sweater-to-mittens-smittens-diy/
Just be sure to print them out at 100% and then place you hand on it to make sure they will fit. For some reason some of the patterns have been printing out small.
