and apparently, all the major designers have them in their 2014 fall collections. You can be right on trend and easily make one from a blanket you might already have around the house.
My sweet husband says I’ll be the best dressed mom at the state football playoffs next weekend. I love him!!!
(And yes, Cooper’s football team made the state playoffs!!! I’m so excited for them!)
I found this wool blanket at my thrift store awhile back and have been waiting for just the right moment to use it.
It’s so soft and I love the fact that, like me, it made it’s way out west from Minnesota.

My friends call me a lizard, because I can’t handle the cold! This would be perfect … if it wasn’t for the fact we’re entering the hottest months in Australia! I’ll have to do this once winter comes around again!
I’m not too fond of cold weather either, Anita. When winter hits, I’d love to just stay wrapped up in cozy warm blankets next to the wood stove and read all day.

Absolutely love this little number! Don’t have a blanket, but I have a length of nubby wool plaid, old enough it could qualify as ‘vintage’, that never quite made it into a suit. It would be perfect! Always love your inspirations Beth 🙂

I love how warm and stylish this looks and how quick and easy it is to make. How many of us throw a blanket on at the games to keep warm? But it is in no way stylish. It looks like we just crawled out of bed. Now you can have both, warmth and style. I might make this for my teen daughter Emily.

Wow, this was three years ago? I’ve been meaning to make one of these since you first posted this. I’m in Southern CA and our cold season is minimal, but during last week’s football game all I could think about was this blanket coat… and how I wished I had one! Thanks, Tamika! Without the belt loop holes, it was just too bulky for this body, maybe if I was teeny, I could wrap the belt around all of it. As soon as I put in the belt loop holes the fit was much more flattering. I’m loving the fringe too this fall. If I could, I’d have it on everything. 🙂 Have a wonderful Sunday!

So genius. This is absolutely stunning. The creative use of the belt “makes” the outfit. It is so unique and so much more attractive than simply belting around the front and back. Your husband is right – you will look fabulous and oh so chic at the football games. I love this.

Love, love, love this! I have been following you for some time now. We have very much the same body shape. I have a higher waist and love your repurposed t shirt dresses as they seem to show off the waistline for us shorter waisted gals. On the poncho what size was the blanket approx.?

Hello! I just found your DIY blog and I am in LOVE! This particular refashion though has to be my favorite! I have been looking for a coat like this, but most floated too far away from the body, looked unflattering and had no closures. This is perfect though! I was wondering if it would be possible to also add belt holes in the back so that the belt wraps all the way around to keep it more secure around the waist and add warmth? I was not sure if this would mess up the look and style or functionality of the coat? Thanks so much!
