I love a good documentary.
And when it explores the future of fashion and gives me some new vocabulary words to throw around in certain circles, EVEN BETTER!
The Next Black is a compelling film that explores the way innovative designers and companies are creating the next big steps in clothing history.
We’ve all heard the words sustainability, slow fashion and recycling which are highlighted in this film, too, but what really rolled my socks up and down were the new phrases such as “Digital Couture Experiences”, “Wearable Tech” and “Bio Couture”.
So fascinating!!!
When I watch a film like this, I’m totally inspired, recharged and ready to forge forward doing what I do. Creating new clothing from old isn’t as new and innovative as some of the techniques in The Next Black, but it’s still an important part of changing the way the world views clothing and fashion. It’s an honor and so much fun to be a part of this movement.
And even though this next refashion project wasn’t created on a 3-d printer, doesn’t measure your heart rate and wasn’t created in a petri dish, I still think it’s pretty cool. 🙂
We all have one — an old faithful winter coat that has kept us warm for years, but has gotten slightly blah. Instead of getting rid of it, give it a modern, edgy twist by adding leather.

This turned out so well. Amazing coat. Cheers, Michele
Thanks so much, Michelle!
Wow-super creative! A great way to repurpose an old coat. Would be cute with some trim on the seam line.
Thanks, trim would be beautiful!
Wow! (This is Kelli from Kelli’s Kitchen but it won’t let me change icons so it looks like Yum Goggle!) I love the look of this coat – can I send you two of mine and you make me a cool one like this??? haha! one day I’m going to learn to use my sewing machine! Great job!
Hi Kelli! You’ll be happy to know I’ve just started a new series called Learn to Sew. It starts at the very beginning with setting up your sewing machine and practicing basic stitches to simple beginning projects, choosing the right fabric and even cracking the pattern codes. I hope you’ll join us. https://chicenvelopements.wordpress.com/2015/12/26/learn-to-sew-a-new-series/
I saw the email notification and was saving it to read when I finally had a quiet moment – you know I’ll be joining you! This is very exciting!!
Oh my, it would be an honor to be your sewing “teacher”, Kelli!! 🙂
I’m thrilled that you started this class. I’m hoping tomorrow – if everyone goes to work – I will be able to sit down and read the post, get my sewing machine out etc… We are having snowmaggedon here so I’m not sure anyone will be able to go to work but it will happen! 🙂
Snowmaggedon!!! That’s such a great word! Personally, I love a good blizzard that keeps everyone home. The best time to sew in my opinion. 🙂 Stay warm, Kelli!
It’s so CUTE, the way “the industry” still thinks it’s running the show!!
Funny!
like the shorter jacket look …great job!
Thanks so much Marilyn! You are always so encouraging!! Truly your gift! 🙂
I can sew to some extent. I do enjoy! it would to be space. Thank you.
You are very welcome, Pam!
