Whoa, it’s December 1st already and you do-it-yourselfers know what THAT means……..only twenty fours days left to make all of your holiday gifts.
Da-da-ta-da-ta-da! The Renegade Seamstress to the rescue. 🙂
Throughout December, I’ll be posting quick, easy and inexpensive DIY gift tutorials as my gift to you.
The first project is one that will literally only take you minutes to complete, and someone on your gift list is sure to love!
You can make this clutch purse from any placemat. Most thrift stores have hundreds of these hanging along their walls making the design possibilities endless.
Just fold it in thirds and stitch around all the edges.
Choose the perfect button.
Attach the button to the clutch front.
And. You. Are. Finished!
Seeing as it IS the season of giving, and you have all been so supportive of my sewing adventures, I’d like to give this away to one of you, too. Just pin this tutorial to one of your Pinterest boards and leave a comment below and your name will be entered into the drawing. I will announce the winner next Saturday, December 7th. Good luck and thank you!!!
Speaking of giveaways…..
Congratulations to Laura Hinckley Burghorn, the winner of the Foldover Blanket Clutch. Click here for the tutorial for this quick, easy and inexpensive DIY holiday gift.
Now, for those of you who can’t find the time to make things for everyone on your list, but would still like to give a handmade holiday gift, I still have a few Smittens left in my etsy shop.
Happy Holidays!!!
Beth
Love the simplicity and ease….thank you for this….it is sweet and fun, even if I don’t get around to he work!
Sometimes it’s fun to just think about making things……
I’d love a wine bag tutorial. Happy Holidays.
Oh, now there’s a good idea, Ingrid!

I wish you could see me laughing and jumping after I read your email post!!! First, the placemat clutch is a perfect project for me- I might have a slight problem with collections, especially dinner linens! And as I read down the post I found out- I WON the fold over blanket clutch!!! So much good news in one post!!!! Thank you for the perfect way to start my December!
Yay!!! Thank YOU for your nice comments, Laura! I’ll watch for your address and get it out to you ASAP!

This just gives me another thing to look out for while I’m strolling the local goodwill. When I find the perfect place mat, I WILL be doing this. It can’t get any easier than sewing along the edge!! My kinda craft/diy thing. Thanks.
Oh, yes, Siria! A very quick and easy project to do!!
Love them Beth! Another idea for my list!
Happy Holidays!
Mary
Have fun, Mary!!!
I’ve seen this idea before but NEVER so beautifully executed. Somehow it’s the same with everything you make, Beth. You have such a great eye for colours and textures that take “good” to “great”. Nice!
Awwwwwwww……have I ever mentioned what a blessing your comments are? You somehow always know the right thing to say!!! Thanks, Jo!
Oh, you are sweet! I just wish I had your “eye” – but I think I am learning a bit!
Pinned to my purses/bags board. Love your work, it is inspiring!
Thanks so much, JoAnn!!!!
You have just saved some of my lonely place Matt’s from the island of misfits. You rock! Thanks Penny
Yay, Penny!!!
I pinned the white clutch tutorial to my Sewing board on Pinterest….love it! Great idea. I have a question though….is there a snap that was sewn under the button or is the button just decorative? Just wondering…..
Thanks for pinning, Sue! The button is just decorative, but a snap would be nice, too.
I’m adding quilted placemats to my already long thrift store shopping list! I can just hear my husband muttering, “Oh joy and Hallelujah. (minus any enthusiasm!) I’m pinning both clutch tutorials right now! Thanks for all the work you do to share with all of us!
Thanks for pinning, Diane!
