DIY: No Sew Dress Refashion

Sometimes simple is just better….

Found this dress in the thrift store on Fifty Cent Wednesday. Thought with a few changes it might be nice for a Friday night dinner at a friend’s house.

Once again, nice fabric but shapeless and too long. The neckline was too low for me so I put a brown shirt underneath for pictures. I planned on taking out the middle and resewing like I did with the 1960’s Mad Men Inspired Dress Refashion and the Accidental Mother of the Bride Dress. But, as I was marking how much to take out and looking in the mirror, I had a handful bunched up on the side and, oh my gosh, it looked pretty good that way. So I grabbed a hairband, wrapped it around the handful of fabric, lowered the t shirt sleeves from underneath the dress and wha-la! A whole new look for the dress. So easy peasy, even my sister, Jan could do it.🙂

Here’s the how to video:

Now I’m ready for dinner…

This is so cute! Was it really 50cents! You have me wanting to redo dresses I sewn or bought. Hubby says this is not good for closet space!LOL

    • Yes, Cheryl, fifty cents! Can you believe it? I’m so lucky, my local thrift store usually sells clothes for $1.00 but on Wednesday, all adult clothes are half price. Needless to say, Wednesdays are my shopping day. I’m so spoiled by her prices. Makes it easy for me to take risks when refashioning. Happy Saturday!!!!

Wow, Beth! I love this…the refashioned dress makes you look 20 lbs thinner than the original! Very cute and so easy…right up my alley:)

Isn’t it funny how a few inches of length (added or subtracted) seems to take the kilos off!

What a super brainwave that was! Love the little accent made by the fabric in the elastic. Charming – just charming. Hope you had a lovely time!

  8. where do you find 50 cent wednesdays

  9. Hey, Ramona, I’m so lucky to have a local thrift store that usually only charges one dollar for all clothes, but on Wednesdays, it’s half price on adult clothes. I’m so spoiled, but it does make it easy to take risks when refashioning. Enjoy your weekend!

So clever. I have a long black lightweight coat that is too big now that I’ve lost 30 pounds. It’s got great lines and lots of cool detail and I’ve been thinking of ways to refashion it without losing all the things I love about it. The fact that it’s lined scares me and I think it would be way more work than I have time for.

    • I’ve got a coat waiting to be refashioned, too. My friend gave it to me. Its a nice red wool but it needs a little updating. I know what you mean, it’s a bit intimidating with the lining. I’m still trying to figure out what to do with it.
