Cotton fabric can catch on fire in a microwave. Do you use a certain type of fabric? My potato bag caught on fire after I had used it at least 15-20 times. It was just regular cotton that I had left over from a quilt I had made.

I’ve never heard of this happening with cotton fabric. I’ve only left it in for 2 to 2 1/2 minutes though.

Can I ask Diana, did you use shortening or something on your potatoes? And was it regularly washed after use? I would think that if it was cotton without poly it shouldn’t be a problem.

Do you just put the popcorn kernels in the bag with no oil or butter? Thanks.

  5. Kathy says:

Thanks for the quick reply. I have some pink polka dot cotton fabric that will be perfect for this.

One more question, since you put the fold down on the one side; do you use that to fold over to close the bag while the corn is popping? These would be great Christmas presents individually made so each person has their own bag. So cute.

I just made this bag with 100% cotton fat quarter and 100% cotton thread. It caught fire in my microwave. I microwaved it for 4 minutes because it had not quit popping. Did I do something wrong?
